Author’s Retreat

The client’s brief was to create a secluded garden to hold Literary Group meetings whilst retaining the character and charm of the 16th century listed Cotswold cottage.

Traditional elements such as the espalier apple trees, bay tree standards and mature quince tree are married playfully with low box hedging and larch clad panel to define boundaries and create a calm space.

In the summer the scents of yellow shrub rose Poet’s Wife, lavender and thyme drifts across the terrace. The planting and location is timeless. The mature quince frames the Bath stone cottage. To mirror this the terrace was lovingly built with reclaimed Bath stone slabs.
