Family Garden

In this family garden, the design’s function was threefold accommodating the wishes of the adults and children. For the adults; two patios to sit and relax, eat and entertain outside plus raised beds to grow fruit, vegetables and herbs. For the children, a large lawn or play area for a football match or two.

The garden is open encouraging movement throughout its space. Yet the trees, box hedge and romantic rose arch define separate areas. There are traditional English garden elements such as a large lawn area, box topiary hedging, bay standards and a rose border combined with more informal planting in a pastel palette encouraging pollinators and a softness to the garden. The heads of Allium Purple Sensation and the Plume Poppies give height yet translucency between the front and back of the garden enticing you into the garden at any time of year.

In the Family Garden there is scent, colour and interest throughout the year . In winter the crab apples hang like tiny red baubles, in spring the pots of Narcissus Thalia on the patio greet you with their scent, in summer there is a riot of colour and scent as the alliums, roses, salvia and stachys perform and in autumn the multi-stem Amelanchier lamarkii dazzles with all shades of orange and red.

This is a space for everyone and a garden which everyone loves.
